Setting up a social area in Reading

I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a gathering where we ran out space. I decided to look near Forbury Gardens.

I stumbled upon the site while scrolling and sent photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens replied with a quote that felt fair for the job.

The process of organising this project was actually quite involved. I dedicated several hours reflecting on the configuration of the space before even picking up the phone. My living area has constantly felt a bit incomplete, and owning a dedicated zone for beverages seemed like the perfect solution to that problem. I recall standing in my kitchen staring at a cluttered countertop covered with glassware and realising that something had to shift. The first interaction with the team was very straightforward, which gave me assurance. We discussed various aesthetics, from contemporary sleek looks to more traditional and wooden finishes. I was quite surprised by how many information they requested about the dimensions and the existing decor of my house. It seemed like they genuinely wanted the finished product to match perfectly with the rest of the property. I provided various views in the images I uploaded, ensuring sure each nook was clear. They clarified that the bespoke nature of the unit meant that precision was entirely paramount to avoid any issues throughout the fitting. We moved back and forth on possible resources, looking at samples of laminate and different kinds of wood grain. It is surprising how much consideration goes into picking the correct hardware, like knobs and fittings, which can totally alter the feel of the entire build. I wanted a place where I could easily prepare cocktails for friends without needing to constantly dash back to the pantry for lemons or tools. The convenience of possessing all items in one place was the primary driver for this investment. We settled the blueprint after a brief consultation where every one of my questions about plumbing and electric sockets were answered. I appreciated that they did not hurry the design phase, taking the effort to ensure that the width of the shelving was enough for my tallest glassware. It seemed like a collaborative effort instead than a standard sale, which is hard to find these days.

The installation date came faster than expected, and the technician was on time and prepared. He started by laying down protective covers to make sure my carpet remained tidy. Watching the parts being unpacked was interesting, as the quality of the wood was instantly evident. He carefully verified the alignment of the floor before attaching the base frame of the bar. I observed as the skeleton gradually gained shape, transforming a plain alcove into a practical piece. The degree of skill involved in scribing the panels to the wonky surfaces of my period home was notable. He explained why each piece fitted in to create maximum stability. We spent a little time deciding on the final height for the integrated cooler, making sure it was easy to reach but tucked back from direct view. The installation of the counter was the highly satisfying part of the whole process. Seeing the polished surface at last sitting on the base helped the vision come real. He next installed the glass backsplash, which instantly made the space to feel double the size. The LEDs were wired afterward, and checking them for the initial moment was a highlight. The warm light underneath the shelves highlighted the glassware perfectly. I could see precisely how useful this would be during evening events. The worker was very diligent, taking the effort to clean down every surface and clear any dust created during the drilling. He additionally showed me the way to move the shelves should I later needed to store larger pieces. The focus to detail was really great, straight down to the silicone lines along the edges. It was obvious that he had immense pride in his work, which is consistently good to witness. We conducted a final inspection of the completed installation to make all was perfect. I observed that a single knob was slightly wobbly, and he fixed it fitted bar immediately with a fast turn of a tool. This diligence is just what I was looking for when I arranged the service.

The finished area looks absolutely stunning and has become the main feature of my downstairs. It offers a classy vibe that was previously missing from my living space. The storage is immense, allowing me to sort all my liquors, sodas, and fancy glasses in one cohesive unit. No more do I need to search inside cluttered cupboard cabinets to find a bottle opener or a certain type of glass. Everything has its proper home, which renders hosting so more easier and stress-free. I love the way the materials reflect the sunlight in the evenings, creating a inviting ambience. My friends have now complimented the setup multiple times, with some actually asking for the details of the people who made it. It really seems like a bespoke extra made exactly for my lifestyle. The elevation of the surface is ideal for leaning around with a glass, and the integrated lighting strips provide just the right level of illumination without being too bright. Even when not in operation, it works as a beautiful piece of furniture that lifts the whole look of the house. I used some time arranging my collection on the shelves to make a visual arrangement. The glass panels really help in displaying the bottles and giving dimension to the small space. It has encouraged me to try creating different cocktails that I before thought were too complicated to bother in a standard kitchen. Having the tap close would have been nice, but the area constraints resulted in we opted against it to save cabinet room. This was a conscious choice we took during the design stage, and I do not rue it. The additional drawer space for straws and accessories is much more valuable to me in the run period.

There were a couple of small drawbacks that are worth mentioning for a balanced view. The lead time for the bespoke doors was a bit longer than I originally hoped. It took about eight weeks from the first deposit to the actual installation date. While this is expected for high-quality work, it required a bit of waiting on my end. I had wanted to have it finished for a specific event, but we missed that date by a few days. However, the updates from the office about the progress were consistent, so I was not kept in the unknowing. I would wait a little more for a result that is made to last than have a rushed job that breaks after a few months. The initial price estimate was also a little less than the final invoice, mostly because I chose to improve the hardware and add more internal lights midway during the build. These changes were entirely my choice, and the team was very clear about the extra fees required. Another minor issue was the volume of packaging left after the fitting. Although the technician tidied up the build area well, there was a large amount of cardboard to dispose of in my recycling. It was not a huge deal, but a thing to consider if you have limited bin room. Despite these small details, the overall journey was vastly good. The quality of the fit is far better to anything I could have purchased off-the-shelf. It feels solid and durable, and I am confident it will handle decades of use. I feel the value it has added to my home well exceeds the initial cost. It has transformed the way I enjoy my living area, rendering it much more social. I not longer sense cluttered when friends visit.

Reflecting back on the whole project, I am really happy I opted forward with it. The initial idea came from a visit to a friend's house in Oxford, where they had a similar setup. I realised then how greatly it enhanced the movement of the party. When I returned to Reading, I started looking for nearby firms and found that working with a bespoke outfit was the only way to get the exact look I desired. The ability to pick every detail, from the colour of the paint to the placement of the power sockets, made the end product was exactly as I pictured. I even had a tiny secret drawer built for keeping expensive items like fancy spoons. This level of customisation is what makes the experience unique. It did not seem like a mass-produced piece being fitted into a space where it did not fit. Instead, it looks like it has forever been a segment of the house. If you are thinking about a like-minded domestic upgrade, my advice would be to remain calm and invest the effort on the design part. It is much better to change a drawing than it is to modify a unit once it is built. The expertise provided during the start was invaluable in preventing me from doing common mistakes, such as placing the cooler too near to a radiator. These little bits of advice are what you pay for when you hire skilled experts. I am currently planning at different areas of my house to see where further I might install fitted solutions. The success of this fitted job has given me the drive to tackle a bigger renovation in the kitchen next season. It has been a wonderful upgrade to my life, and I view ahead to numerous seasons of enjoying it with family and friends. Finding the proper mix between style and function was the goal, and I think we achieved it completely. The process from a messy corner to a stylish hosting point was truly deserving the effort and money required. I now possess a home that I am truly proud to show with to others. Reading has many great places to visit for a cocktail, but honestly, I now prefer being at my place and using my own private setup. It provides the identical atmosphere without the noise or the commute. That itself was deserving the entire undertaking. I am so pleased with how the ambience works in the night, providing a relaxing space to unwind after a long shift at work. It is the small treats like this that make home living so rewarding and fulfilling. I highly value the craft that was put into the final product. The manner the panels shut with a soft thud speaks plenty about the construction quality. No aspect was overlooked, and the final look is precisely what I needed it would be when I originally started this adventure. It is a testament to the skill of the team and the quality of the materials utilised. I am a truly happy customer.
